Youth ages 5 -12 participate in our School Age Child Care (SACC) Program, where they learn to become creative problem solvers through a hands-on arts curriculum.

Classes cover disciplines including the visual arts, dance, theater and media arts. Junior Leadership Groups and intermediate level arts classes prepare pre-teens for success in high school and beyond.

All students participate in sequential, semester-long focus classes and present their work four times each year including at our outdoor summer event, Arts Interactive, and our final spring show.

The Community Art Center School Age Program is open after school weekdays from 2 to 6PM, and from 8AM to 6PM during snow days, school vacation weeks and summer.

Visual Arts

Visual art students are introduced to various mediums including paint, sculpture, collage, screen printing.

Youth build creative skills, find their artistic voice and understand how art can create social change.

Students ages 9-12 have the opportunity to contribute to our community mural projects with the help of a visiting artist.

Theatre

In our theatre classes, youth use improvisation and playwriting to learn about themselves and the world around them.

Classes also teach key literacy skills which includes reading, understanding narrative and building a love for story-telling.

Intermediate level theater students help to devise and perform in an original play each year presented in collaboration with their peers.

Media Arts

Media Arts students gain basic skills in graphic design, video production, and digital photography while also build an understanding of technology and media as powerful tools for communication and change.

Students ages 9-12 are eligible to participate in music production classes where they create their own songs and compose beats using garage band.

All Media Arts classes prepare students for participation in our Teen Media Program.

Dance

Youth in our dance classes learn beginner to intermediate level hip hop dance and are also exposed to a variety of dance styles through seasonal visiting artist workshops that have included folkloric Haitian dance, West African dance, ballet and modern.
